Changes ahead for Old Colfeians!

Horn Park has been the sporting and social home of the Old Colfeian community since the beginning of the twentieth century. Following the acquisition by the School of the freehold of the site in 2010, the School and the Old Colfeian community have agreed that the Horn Park site should be operated as a joint venture and ultimately developed to provide enhanced sporting and social facilities for use by the School, the Old Colfeian community and the local community generally.

The operating body is to consist of a new company limited by guarantee governed by a board of 5 directors. Although the first directors will be nominated by the School, the sporting Old Colfeian community and the general Old Colfeian community, it is intended that the company will be independent of the School and of the Old Colfeian community. As part of this process the alumni and sporting functions of the Old Colfeian community will be separated and a new organisation will be formed later this Autumn to further the non-sporting interests of former pupils and staff.

Volunteers are being sought to take up the initial directorships of the new company limited by guarantee. The role is unpaid and essentially strategic rather than operational in nature. The short to medium term objective will be to formulate and implement a business plan to facilitate the continued sporting and social use of the site by the Old Colfeian community, the sporting community and the School with a view to the operation of the site at least breaking even. The longer term objective will be to plan and implement the redevelopment of the site to provide enhanced social and sporting facilities for the joint benefit of the Old Colfeian community, the sporting community and the School. The majority of the necessary structural work and a great deal of the forward planning has already been carried out and the existing advisory team will continue to be available to support the new board.

No particular qualifications are required other than an ability to manage relationships and process coupled with the vision and determination to drive the project through to a successful conclusion. Applications are invited from all parts of the Old Colfeian community – young and old, male and female. If you want to play an active part in shaping the future of the Horn Park site and making it a vibrant and inclusive social centre for Old Colfeians of all ages and interests send a brief CV to the secretary of the Horn Park Steering Committee, Clive Corlett (mccorlett@btinternet.com) by no later than Friday 19th October.

DON’T HOLD BACK – YOUR OLD COLFEIAN COMMUNITY NEEDS YOU!
